The Role of a Data Steward

A Data Steward fills one of the most critical roles in the successful implementation of Data Management initiatives. Data Stewards are responsible for ensuring the integrity, availability and useability of data assets. Data Stewards need to understand, implement, and promote best-practices within the Data Management Knowledge Areas. Data Stewards should strengthen the Data Culture through their passion for Data and play an essential role in the organisation’s Data Eco-system.

Data Stewards are usually Subject Matter Experts, with a good understanding of a particular area of the organisation’s Data. They are normally in a position to be able to help and guide others in gathering the Data, understanding it and working to get the most out of it.
